Overview
SecondAmendment.net is an educational reference site published from the domain secondamendment.net. This policy describes what information we and our service providers collect when you visit, how it is used, and the choices available to you. By using the site, you agree to the practices described below.
What We Collect Directly
We do not require registration and we do not operate accounts, newsletters, or contact forms on this site. The only information we receive directly from you is what your browser sends automatically to any web server, plus anything you choose to send by email.
Our hosting infrastructure records standard server logs, which typically include:
- Your IP address
- The date and time of the request
- The URL requested and the HTTP referrer (if any)
- Your browser user-agent string and general operating system
These logs are retained by our hosting provider for a short period (generally 30 days) and are used for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and technical troubleshooting. They are not merged with analytics or advertising data, and they are not sold.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our own pages do not set tracking cookies. However, third-party services we load on the site (Google Analytics and, when enabled, Google AdSense) do set cookies on your browser. For details on each cookie category, see our Cookie Policy.
You can block, delete, or restrict cookies through your browser settings at any time. Most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" signal; we do not set any of our own tracking in response to DNT, but third-party services have their own DNT handling.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-1R5NZ538J9) to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which pages are visited, how users arrive, and which devices are common. Google Analytics sets cookies (typically _ga and _ga_*) and processes an anonymized form of your IP address along with standard request metadata.
We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors, and we do not upload personal data to Google. You can opt out by:
- Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Blocking analytics cookies in your browser.
- Using a content blocker of your choice.
Google AdSense and Advertising
This site participates, or may participate, in the Google AdSense program to help fund our editorial work. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you may opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info or YourOnlineChoices.com.
- For more information on how Google uses data when you use its partners' sites or apps, see Google's policy.
Third-party advertising vendors may also use cookies to measure ad performance, combat fraud, and cap the frequency of ad exposures. Ads on this site are clearly distinguishable from editorial content; we do not endorse any advertised product or service.
Third-Party Services and Embedded Content
Aside from Google Analytics and Google AdSense, we link to external sources that are essential to constitutional research — such as the Supreme Court's website, the Library of Congress, Cornell's Legal Information Institute, and the National Archives. When you follow those links you leave our site and become subject to the destination's own privacy practices, which we do not control.
We do not embed social-media widgets, video players with autoplay, advertising retargeting pixels, or chat tools.
Your Rights Under GDPR (European Union and United Kingdom)
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you the following rights with respect to personal data we hold about you:
- Access: the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold.
- Rectification: the right to correct inaccurate personal data.
- Erasure: the right to request deletion of personal data we hold about you.
- Restriction: the right to ask us to limit how we process your data.
- Objection: the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
- Portability: the right to receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdrawal of consent: where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent.
- Complaint: the right to lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority.
Our legal basis for using non-essential cookies and analytics in the EU/UK is your consent, which you may withdraw through your browser settings or a supported consent control at any time. The legal basis for essential server logging is our legitimate interest in site security.
Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and its amendments give you the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies through Google AdSense may be considered "sharing" of personal information under California law. To opt out:
- Adjust your cookie preferences in your browser.
- Visit Google Ads Settings to opt out of personalized advertising.
- Email us at [email protected] with the subject line "CCPA Request."
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data Retention
Server logs are typically retained for up to 30 days and then deleted or anonymized. Analytics data managed by Google is retained according to the configuration of our Google Analytics property and thereafter purged by Google. Any email correspondence is kept only for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry, unless a longer period is required by law.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We do not store personal data in our own databases, because the site does not collect any. We rely on our hosting provider's standard security practices for the infrastructure it operates.
International Transfers
Our hosting and the third-party services we use (Google Analytics, Google AdSense) may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where required, these providers rely on approved transfer mechanisms such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to This Policy
We may revise this policy to reflect changes in our practices, the services we use, or applicable law. The "Last reviewed on" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page for a reasonable period after publication.
